The upper part of Barcelona, more specifically in Gracia, is where this walk was made. Gracia is part of the "old" Barcelona and was before called Villa de Gracia. It is the smallest district of Barcelona today. A long time ago it was a small village located outside of the city but as Barcelona grew it later on became part of the city. The district that unified the two parts is called Eixample where you today can find for example the biggest shopping street in Barcelona; Passeig de Gracia.
Gracia is characterized by small streets and shops, cosy bars and nice squares. The most attractive place in Gracia is Parc Güell by Antoni Gaudí who also is famous for the big breathtaking church Sagrada Familia.
Once a year each district has its own street party and the one made in Gracia is the most famous one in Barcelona. It is held for one week during August. The streets are filled with different decorations and there is a competition between the neighbours on who makes the nicest looking street. People gather on the streets to listen to music entertainment and have fun with their friends.
Gracia is known for being the meeting point for the avant-garde and culturally alternative people.
